Tertiary Prevention and Care of Medical-Surgical Patients and Families

Pathophysiological and psychosocial aspects of assessment and management for selected acute and emergent problems of adult patients with complex illness, including multifaceted assessment, health history, and diagnostic reasoning skills, and emphasis on social, cultural, and developmental influences. Integration of knowledge of pathophysiology, diagnostics, pharmacology, therapeutic interventions, evidence-based practice, patient safety, and communication concepts as applied to care of medical and surgical patients. Supervised practicum experience within settings of multidisciplinary teams directing care of medical-surgical clinical units, with focus on clinical interpretation of assessment and diagnostic data for purpose of planning, implementing, and evaluating course of care for patients, both as individuals and cohorts. Intermediate-level assessment, health maintenance, and management of symptoms across lifespan.
