Within context of history of nursing, introduction to practice of nurses, including role of advocacy. Discussion of effective use of self as professional nurse in relation to ethics, cultural competence, and human diversity. Introduction to ethical principles (justice, autonomy, veracity, beneficence, confidentiality) and professional values (altruism, autonomy, human dignity, integrity, and social justice) in relation to nursing practice throughout history in health/illness and end-of-life contexts.
