Offers academic and practical knowledge needed to understand the inner workings of the board of directors and to become an effective board member. Covered topics are designed to help students—based on their background, experience, abilities, and skills—join a board of directors and become a productive board member for a public, private, or not-for-profit company or organization. Includes lectures and discussions, as well as presentations by an executive coach and guest speakers, on how to get on a board and the steps to take to ensure effective board oversight, monitoring, and decision making. Students gain an understanding of the different kinds of boards and the types of issues and challenges that directors deal with on a regular basis. Students expand their general knowledge of corporate governance, examine critical board issues, and are prepared to be ready to apply for a board position for a company or organization that they have strategically targeted.
