Educational Research and Equity in Informal Learning: Collaboration between Hammer Museum and UCLA Education

Through collaboration with Hammer Museum, introduction to importance of informal learning contexts, specifically in art museums, and value of conducting educational research within such contexts, while keeping equity at center of inquiry and exploration. Study of art museum pedagogies and philosophies. Reflection on art museum responsibility to support positive learning experiences for diverse audiences and local communities. Exploration of Research-Practice Partnerships education research approach that can support art museums in understanding problems of practice and questions of interest to their communities through mutually beneficial collaboration between researchers and practitioners. This approach challenges more traditional research-practitioner power dynamics by creating opportunities for both to jointly negotiate research questions, methods, and data analysis.
