Emphasis on how faunas have changed over time, especially during periods of diversification and extinction. Relation of influence of major events of geologic, climatic, and environmental change on living organisms to environmental change on human timescales. Emphasis on how scientists collect and evaluate fossil data through understanding of living organisms.
