Quantitative Methods in Education: Claims and Evidence

Limited to Education and Social Transformation majors. Offers introductory training in conducting and making sense of quantitative analysis of educational data. Introduction of the concept of validity (statistical validity, internal validity, construct validity, external validity) as a framework to evaluate the soundness of conclusions and decisions drawn from quantitative research evidence in education. Critical examination of how values, beliefs, and bias can shape quantitative education research. Quantitative background is not required.
Students learn to apply basic statistical analysis techniques in the widely used software package R. Letter grading.
