Instructional Apprenticeship in Teaching and Learning at UCLA Community Schools

Not open for credit to students with credit for course 130AX, 130BX, or 130EX. Examination of how UCLA partners with Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to educate, engage, empower, and serve students and families through community schooling model. Through readings, discussions, guest speakers, and course assignments, students are offered varied opportunities to examine case studies on how two institutions, UCLA and UCLA Community Schools, partner together to ensure greater engagement and democratic development to transform neighborhood school, as well as link school day and after-school curricula to solve locally identified, real-world, and community problems to uplift entire school community. Students gain grounded understanding of social issues in education through readings, observations, direct support in classrooms, and tutoring activities.
