Not open to students who have learned, from whatever source, enough Chinese to qualify for more advanced courses. Intensive course equivalent to courses 100A, 100B, and 100C. Materials selected from contemporary Chinese publications, with emphasis on social sciences. Texts analyzed for their linguistic features and social and cultural background. Readings, compositions, informal debates on topical issues, and oral presentations. Offered in summer only.
P/NP or letter grading.
