(Formerly numbered C233.) Examination of urban politics in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, with focus on comparative analysis. Overall focus on institutions, government, and politics, and how these shape urban life in the global south. Topics may include decentralization; public service provision; rule of law and urban violence; participatory institutions; mass mobilization; local campaigns and elections; environmental issues; transportation; housing; and race, ethnicity, and representation.
