Review of major concepts and issues in sociology of medicine. Topics include medicine, culture, and capitalism, professions and power, challenge of managed care, sick role and social control, interactionism and negotiation of sickness, sickness and self, debates over medicalization and demedicalization. Designed as preparation for field examination in sociology of health and medicine and specifically for themes traditionally included under medical sociology/sociology of medicine.
