(Same as Public Policy M228B and Urban Planning M231.) Conceptually, focus on interplay between three major institutional complexes of modern, globalizing societies and organizations that operate within them: state, market, and civil society. Study moves between abstract theory and concrete examples, offers sense of where these institutions and organizations have come from, and helps chart their present trajectories. From perspective of governance, assessment of roles and configurations of institutions and organizations to address today’s challenges.
