Advanced Social Work Practice: Group Work

Designed for second year practitioners with solid foundation in psychotherapy theories and direct practice field experience. Advanced direct practice study offering exposure to and experience in basics of group work, group dynamics, and group interventions. Topics include elements of interpersonal dynamics; group processes, formation, and development; role and skills of the group practitioner; ethical and cultural considerations; and therapeutic factors unique to group work. Emphasis on strengthening competencies and expanding knowledge bases for group work, with on-going emphasis on critical self-awareness and critical self-reflexivity, which are cornerstones of effective practice across all modalities.
