Community-Based Research I
Social Science · 4 units · Graduate courses (200-299)
Part one of two-part series. Students learn the principles, ethics, and methods of community-based research; and the place and purpose of scholarly inquiry. Working in teams, students conduct small-scale research projects in collaboration with local community organizations. Work is divided fairly among team members with each team member contributing based on their skills and talents. Teams work closely with the instructor and organization contacts on all aspects of the research design, execution, and data analysis. Teams learn all relevant background information about the community organization being worked with; develop a research design, data collection methods, and protocols; recruit participants; and engage in data collection.
