Society and Genetics · 2 units · Undergraduate upper division (100-199)
Enrollment by application. Limited to 20 students. Introduction to multidisciplinary laboratory work, putting departmental methods into practice. Includes series of readings and resources, specific working group tasks and semiweekly reflective memos on challenges and growth, and presentations on student research and journeys navigating the laboratory research process. Students learn how to collaborate on work products that have real world consequences; move from research questions into designing research to address those questions from existing data sources or novel archival, observational, modeling, or experimental research methods; perform technical tasks with accuracy and precision; reflect on their own learning curve for their specific task of formalized knowledge production; and foster group facilitation skills needed to advance effective leadership. May be repeated three times for credit with consent of instructor.
