Introduction to and exploration of history of Swedish cinema from silent era to present. Filmmakers include auteurs in international canon, such as Victor Sjöström, Mauritz Stiller, and Ingmar Bergman, as well as other key Swedish filmmakers such as Gustaf Molander, Alf Sjöberg, Mai Zetterling, Vilgot Sjöman, Jan Troell, Lukas Moodysson, and Josef Fares. Development of Scandinavian high art cinema and popular genres such as rural romanticism, melodrama, sex, crime, and horror. All films have English subtitles. Concurrently scheduled with course C163B.
