The Bible in Justice Movements

Examination of various ways 20th-century justice and liberation movements in the U.S. engaged the Bible as a resource, roadblock, and inspiration. From the Puerto Rican freedom fighting Young Lords and the Black Power movement to the largely white Catholic Worker Movement, the Bible has played a pivotal role in revolutionary efforts against poverty, white supremacy, capitalism, and more. Consideration of representatives from the feminist, womanist, and queer liberationist movements to see how biblical traditions have affected how we think about gender and sexuality and vice versa. Study offers a view of how religious resources have been re-imagined from below in rebellion against mainstream religions interpretations.
