(Same as Public Policy CM183 and Society and Genetics M173.) Not open for credit to students with credit for Society and Genetics 174. Introduction to social analysis of science and expertise by considering three overlapping themes: what differentiates science and scientific expertise from non-science, current and historical controversies about expertise and democracy in technical and policy decision-making, and features of science’s organization that encourage controversies about scientific integrity.
