Psychology of Chronic Disease

Limited to graduate students. Major themes include conceptualization and operationalization of adjustment to chronic illness: theoretical framework for understanding determinants of adjustment to chronic illness and current research on those determinants, prevalence of psychological disorder in populations with chronic illness, evidence-based psychosocial interventions for individuals with chronic illness, and terminal illness and end-of-life care. Readings and discussion across several major chronic diseases (e.g., cardiovascular diseases, cancer, AIDS, rheumatic conditions, diabetes).
