Recommended: courses 115A, 115B, 115C. Introduction to general relativity. Principle of equivalence and curved spacetime, local inertial frames, vectors and three-dimensional surfaces in curved spacetime. Schwarzchild metric, perihelion precession, bending of light by sun, and gravitational redshift. Star-system applications, black holes, gravitational waves. Introduction to cosmology, including Robertson/Walker metric and expanding universe solution to Friedman equations. Dark energy and cosmological constant.
