Knowledge of Japanese not required. Examination of classical poetry of Nara and Heian periods, with focus on poetry anthology called Man’yoshu (Collection of Myriad Ages, 8th century) and on Kokinwakashu (Collection of Ancient and Modern Japanese Poems, early 10th century).
