Advanced Reading and Writing: Community-Engaged Learning

Designed for heritage and non-heritage learners who are highly proficient in informal spoken Japanese but have limited proficiency in formal speech or literacy skills. Introduction to community engagement in various forms. Exploration of methods of community involvement and change-making processes within a variety of professional and community contexts. Students engage in learning to broaden their understanding of Japanese-speaking and Japanese/English bilingual communities. Students have the opportunity to use cultural and linguistic knowledge acquired in Japanese classes in real-world settings.
