Musical Traditions around Iran: Baluchistan, Kurdistan, Azerbaijan, and Iraq

Introduction to selected types of music around Iran with particular attention to Baluchistan, Kurdistan, Azerbaijan, and Iraq. Study of structures and genres of music in urban and rural communities. Examination of how music-making relates to aspects of current Middle Eastern life such as religious observance, gender relations, ethnic and national identity, and process of globalization.
