Emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) are infections that have recently appeared within population or those whose incidence or geographic range is rapidly increasing or threatens to increase in future. Overview of important emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases globally. Addresses factors associated with disease emergence/re-emergence, research methods, preparedness, disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, and response to EIDs with global perspective.
