Exploration of the science, impacts, and management of wildland fire and associated smoke. Topics include combustion and heat transfer; characteristics of fuels, fire behavior, and fire propagation; and the characterization, monitoring, and prediction of smoke emissions. Examination of fire effects on plants, soils, wildlife, and human populations, including impacts of smoke on human health. Consideration of strategies for managing fuels, fires, and landscapes, with attention to interactions among climate change, fire regimes, and smoke.
