Introduction to Engineering Design: Casting and Metallurgy

Introduction to concepts and techniques in materials engineering. Students create and test alloys for their strength, ductility, and density. Students cast iterative self-designed alloys and learn important metallurgical concepts such as strengthening mechanisms and defects. Students gain skills including in computer-aided design, mold-making design, and casting experience. Student team projects culminate in oral presentation and final competition.
