Investigation of medieval court culture, exploring concepts of nobility, governance, love, loyalty, and power in range of genres: romance, courtly epic, lyric, debate, and satire. Texts may include Beowulf , Lais of Marie de France , Sir Gawain and the Green Knight , Pearl , and Malory’s Morte Arthure . May be repeated for credit with topic or instructor change.
