Conservation Genomics

Conservation genomics is an interdisciplinary field that integrates genetic and genomic concepts from population genetics, evolutionary biology, molecular ecology, and systematics with applications to the conservation of natural populations. Study within the field considers how human disturbance jeopardizes populations and how genetic and genomic concepts can be used to conserve and manage natural populations and species. Case studies of plants and animals cover various topics including habitat loss, population size, and inbreeding depression; landscape change and genetic connectivity of populations; climate change and local adaptation; management of wild and natural populations; and invasive species. Concurrently scheduled with course C146.
