Introduction to principles and practices of leadership and management of athletic departments in higher education with emphasis on social justice leadership. Students develop their own, authentic and intentional leadership philosophy for leading with purpose and integrity, and gain knowledge, skills, and values to effectively lead in athletic departments. Introduction to various models of leadership and to fundamental management skills such as strategic planning, project management, effective communication, team building, team leadership, program evaluation, and effecting organizational change. Includes readings, responses to readings, analyses of case studies, developing leadership philosophy of one's own, formulating vision and mission statements, constructing strategic plans, developing communication strategies, and other individual and collaborative assignments around leadership and management of athletic departments.
