Ethical Issues in Sports

Coaches and sport management professionals are likely to face numerous ethical issues and dilemmas in their day-to-day professional practices. Introduction to salient moral and ethical issues involved in physical education, sports, and coaching. Students gain analytical tools to make ethically informed decisions by introducing normative principles and framework to guide decision-making in real-life situations. Covers content areas where ethical decision-making may be relevant including sportsmanship, gambling, coaching, parental responsibilities, violence, drug use and testing, race and gender equity, media, and commercialization of college sports. Includes lectures, discussions, analysis of case studies, and applications of decision-making tools to resolve ethical issues.
