Adolescent Development

Introduction to adolescence—period of tremendous change and growth across all domains of development, including physical, social, cognitive, and emotional during second decade of life. Topics may include pubertal development, adolescent brain development, family, friend, peer, and intimate relationships, social identity and intergroup relations, school, work, and civic engagement. Draws on developmental science research on adolescence and applies that knowledge to examination of practices and policies. Contemporary and global conceptualizations of adolescence and more complex understandings of developing self in relation to significant others (i.e., family, friends, peers) and bounded in socio-historical time and place (i.e., school, work, media).
