Recommended: courses 115A, 115B. Introduction of principles, analysis, and design of power electronic circuits used in modern energy conversion systems. Topics include the operation and modeling of semiconductor power devices such as diodes, bipolar junction transistors (BJTs), metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs), wide-bandgap devices, and passive components including inductors, capacitors, and magnetic elements. Covers fundamental power converter topologies, including alternating concurrent (AC) and direct current (DC) converters. Emphasis on steady-state and dynamic behavior, efficiency, losses, and thermal considerations. Introduction of analytical techniques such as averaged modeling, small-signal analysis, and frequency-domain methods to support controller design and system-level performance evaluation. Concurrently scheduled with course C215P.
