Social Computing

Writing code involves learning different methods of thinking and making. Study pairs fundamental programming skills with study on relevant artists and theory. This framework of making and meaning is applied to generate thoughtful creative works. Students are encouraged to bring perspectives from life experiences and communities and implementations for their respective fields of study and majors, and to collaborate with peers in an interdisciplinary approach. Consideration of the potential of software within visual arts; with perspectives gained from major study, why students want or need to wrist software; and power relationships, inequities, and biases embedded within software and technology. No prior art, design, or coding experience is required.
