DESMA 130
Experiments in Virtuality
Design|Media Arts · 5 units · Undergraduate upper division (100-199)
Virtuality is a realm of potential, defined by its proximity to reality and our bodies—it is not software or platform specific. Study provides a framework for students to develop projects that explore different kinds of virtual platforms and spaces. Focus on tools, workflows, and modalities that correspond to the instructor’s unique specialization, which may include expanded cinema, mixed-reality live performance practices, projection mapping, spatialized sound, or virtual reality. Discussions, individual research, readings, and screenings center on building collaborative projects, linear and nonlinear storytelling, spatial design, and approaches to expression through designing and interfacing with the virtual.
