Community Engaged Research in Practice: Community Scholars
Community Engagement and Social Change · 4 units · Undergraduate upper division (100-199)
(Same as Labor Studies M190B.) Enrollment by consent of instructor. Designed for students participating in Astin Community Scholars Program. Students learn from faculty, community stakeholders, graduate students, and key academic experts about emerging organizing models, best practices, and changing landscape in chosen topic. Provides students with opportunity to work with leaders from key community and labor organizations across Los Angeles on six-month dynamic participatory research project. Focus on current topic affecting Angelenos and neighboring communities. Key outcomes may include production of policy reports, popular education materials, and/or book publication by UCLA Labor Center and collaborative partners. Primary focus on engaging policy makers and other change agents.
