Latinx Sexualities
Chicana/o and Central American Studies · 4 units · Undergraduate upper division (100-199)
Introduction to interdisciplinary field of Latinx sexuality studies. Early research on Latinx sexuality was studied from a medical model of disease and risk, which centered conversations about HIV/AIDS, pregnancy, contraception, and sexually transmitted diseases. Although these topics are important, the centering of risk-related narratives restricted questions about Latinx erotics and their desiring imagination. Study is based in an understanding that Latinx sexualities are complex and encompass a wide range of social relations that also explore nonreproductive sensory pleasures.
