Engineering and Environmental Justice

Introduction to concept of environmental justice. Examination of methods for assessing disparities in exposure to environmental hazards. Exploration of how engineers can partner with community to address local environmental issues. Along with case study analyses, students collaborate with community-based organizations on real-world projects. Topics include water quality; air quality; energy justice; climate justice; community resilience; race, ethnicity, and class; expertise; and community-based participatory research. May be repeated once for credit.
