Exploration of range of topics in Arabic sociolinguistics, including diglossia and dialect groups in the Arab world, regional variation, codeswitching, language attitudes and ideologies, social identity, bilingualism, digital media and language use, heritage-Arabic speakers, and applied sociolinguistics pertaining to the teaching of Arabic as a foreign language. Examination of language used by some Arabic speech communities in both casual and professional settings, with focus on how language affects social lives and how social organization affects use of language.
