Promotes understanding of contemporary sociocultural forms among Afro-Americans in U.S. by presenting comparative and diachronic perspective on Afro-American experience in New World. Emphasis on utilization of anthropological concepts and methods in understanding origins and maintenance of particular patterns of adaptation among black Americans.
