Brief survey of development of Western social science, particularly anthropology, from Greek and Roman thought to emergence of evolutionary theory and concept of culture in late 19th century. Root paradigm of Western social science and its influence on such notables as Durkheim, Freud, Hall, Lombroso, Marx, Piaget, Terman, and others. Consideration of how this influences ethnocentrism and Eurocentrism, sexism, racism, perception of deviance, and view of culture in general.
