Introduction to Sumerian, oldest cuneiform language, with examples attested in Mesopotamia from 3rd millennium BCE to 1st century CE. Elementary grammar, syntax, and overview of cuneiform as used by Sumerian. Focus on structure of nominal and verbal chain, through reading of basic royal inscriptions and other texts.
