AF AMER C268Black Queer Ecologies

Introduction to Black queer ecologies, which considers ways in which Blackness and queerness are produced, reproduced, experienced, and mobilized through interplay of human nature dynamics, ecological processes, and more-than-human relations. Exploration of interconnected nature of Black queer life to struggle, space, and practice of liberation especially mounted by Black rebels and nonconforming people against oppression linked to culture, nationhood, cisheteropatriarchy, class, and social structure. Study centers chaos, wildness, and blasphemy expressed by Black queer writers, cultural workers, and intellectuals from African diaspora and continent. Focus on those who create freedom spaces and offer alternative perspectives on current social, political, and ecological realities. Study is structured around three primary themes: Black queer theoretical and methodological frameworks; Black queer experiences of capitalism, white supremacy, nature, and culture; and Black queer activism and resistance. Exploration of themes through combination of discussion, media, and text. Concurrently scheduled with course C168.
