Examination of history and politics of relations between Black America and Caribbean from Haitian Revolution of 1804 to U.S. Intervention of Grenada of 1983. Discussion of themes, episodes, and flash points may include significance of Haiti within African American thought, 19th-century Black migration to Caribbean, Caribbean immigration and Harlem Renaissance, Black views of U.S. occupation of Haiti and Trinidad, and impact of Caribbean thinkers on U.S. Civil Rights and Black Power movements.
